Well, most of you know about my recent conversion, engine build went great and engine running as expected. The thing is, I now have a '91 NA engine with 135K miles on it left over. The engine ran great and didn't smoke. It has the typical leak; exhaust valve cover at rear, but it has no problems. I'm trying to decide what to do with it. These are the two options I have come up with. 1) Sell the engine as-is. Will probably be hard to get more than about $1300 for it as it is. 2) Disassemble engine, rebuild engine: New bearings New Rings New seals (everything) New t-belt (idlers & tensioner were replaced 30K ago with belt, but replace belt anyway) Complete head job (valve lapping & seal replacement) Cylinder honing and inspection Port match exahust port Injector cleaning and flowtesting/matching EGR elimination New sensors (temp, fuel temp, oil psi) Stock CAS New plugs Complete engine without accessories or exhaust manifolds I would expect that I could easily ask $2500 for the engine AND would probably be able to sell it easier this way. The time element isn't a big deal - I would rebuild it over a month or so. I'm just wondering if these prices sound right. I stand to maximize its value by rebuilding it, which will return about $2K after buying all the parts and having the machine work done whereas selling the old engine will only bring in the $1300 at best, if it even sells. What's your thoughts? Thanks!
